Entered secondary school in 1982, undiagnosed Asperger Syndrome (wouldn’t be known in the UK till 1985, received my diagnosis in 1987), suffered horrendous bullying from the get-go. Due to the undiagnosed AS, my sociosexual sense is running at -5 years behind my chronological age. Sexually abused by female peers at age 13 (1984), AIDS crisis in full strength (John Hurt Iceberg ads etc), derailed my sexual development completely, and started traumatic eating as a coping strategy. Abuse continues till chronological age 18 – so I was developmentally 8 when it all happened. I was a Black and Decker Workmate for the cohort who ended up dating Badboys and getting pregnant at 16 or younger.. I was brought off through clothes for their malicious entertainment. I develop a jury-rigged “phrasebook” concept of sexuality in order to survive – but I’m offline. Being that this was at least 2 years before Childline, and it would be 12 years before the idea that men could be the victims of female-perpetrated sexual abuse, I was told by both abusers AND staff to keep it quiet – otherwise I could have been blamed for it, and therefore prosecuted for sexual assault – even though I was the victim.. I internalise and shut down. It is 2004 before I receive counselling – when the therapist described what I went through as “rape”.
