Obsidian, I’ve been thinking some more about the impact of lead/follow dancing on women partners. Some elements that would impact a woman who is led well beyond the main impact of dominance/submission include:
1) beauty (patterns, sensitivity and economy of the lead; Niman, Makashi)
2) motion (spatial intelligence, change of direction, turns, change of lead; Ataru)
3) creativity (patterns, new moves, adapts patterns to partner’s strengths; Ataru)
4) power (strength and grace of the lead; Ataru)
5) protection (covers partners mistakes; helps partner “look good” on the floor; protects partner from accidents; Soresu)
6) connection (various chemistries: musical–melody, harmony, beat; romantic; sexual; platonic-unity,serenity,convo; Makashi)
Women often have dance fantasies. Think of the dance with the Prince in Cinderella. Beauty is a key element, along with rhythm and dancing to the melody. There’s romantic connection when the Prince and Cinderella look at one another while dancing. And physical connection, of course. The dance partner is granted high status; if she is into the fantasy enough, he will be seen as an apex alpha.
